According to a recent YouGov survey of 1,000 football fans, 77% of them agreed that gambling sponsorships should not be shown on the front of Premier League shirts.
Only 8% of those surveyed disagreed with the restriction and said gambling organisations' logos should still be allowed to appear as front-of-shirt sponsors.
Notably, the majority of spectators also backed a proposal to extend the prohibition to the physical barriers that surround the field and separate spectators from the playing surface—pitchside hoardings.
Similar numbers of supporters—57% of those surveyed—agreed that gaming corporations shouldn't be permitted to sponsor leagues or football cup events with naming rights.
Despite recent regulations permitting gambling businesses to continue serving as jersey sponsors, 42% said that this practise should also be outlawed.
In the end, this would prevent any betting businesses from having their logos visible on Premier League jerseys.
Compared to gambling corporations, 60% of supporters believed bitcoin companies were an improper sponsor for sports clubs.
Only 19% of the respondents thought gambling corporations should fund the sport.
However, 39% supported allowing alcohol businesses to sponsor teams, while 70% approved of banks and financial services as sponsors.
In the most recent vote, 18 of the 20 active Premier League teams supported the ban, with the other two voting against it.
Eight teams have sponsorship agreements with gaming businesses that feature the front of the jersey.
