The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) or its predecessor, the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU), identified 64 infractions in Rivera, the most ever for a player. He was found guilty of all 64 of them.
He has been permanently barred from going to or taking part in any tennis event sanctioned by an official governing organisation, whether as a coach or a player. A $250,000 punishment has also been imposed on Rivera.
The Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer in this instance, Jane Mulcahy QC, found that Rivera "failed to engage meaningfully with the disciplinary process."
Rivera's violations pertain to Sections D.1.b, D.1.d, D.1.f, and D.1.g of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Programme (TACP) for 2017 and 2018.
These forbid participating parties, who are each referred to as a "covered person," from in any manner encouraging or aiding someone in placing a wager on "the outcome or any other aspect" of an event.
For instance, Section D.1.b indicates that this implies a covered person cannot, among other things, perform "personal appearances for a tennis betting company," write "articles for a tennis betting publication," or appear "in commercials encouraging others to bet on tennis."
Affected parties are also forbidden from directly or indirectly planning an event's result or attempting to do so, and they are forbidden from accepting or giving money that would compromise a "player's best efforts."
Rivera's highest ATP ranking prior to his retirement from competitive tennis and transition into coaching was 705.
