The decision to raise the minimum age to play the lottery was first made public in a statement issued by Camelot Group, which runs the National Lottery, in December 2020. The 2005 Gambling Act was being reviewed by the government when the news was made.
Camelot predicted the modification will take effect by April 2021, and it turned out the prediction was accurate. All sales channels, including brick-and-mortar stores, online games, and mobile apps, will be affected by the shift.
A Camelot representative stated, "We've said all along that we would fully support any decision made by the government to raise the minimum age to play." "We'll be doing everything we can to put all of the changes that will be required into place as soon as possible, while making sure we maintain the very high standards demanded of The National Lottery," the statement said.
By demanding that all players be at least 18 years old, Camelot hopes to avoid the emergence of problem gambling in young people as well as to promote harmony across all kinds of gaming in the UK.
